Executive household help has arrived!
published: Monday | October 29, 2007

Yahneake Sterling, Staff Reporter

Small-Campbell - Contributed

Media and Communications was Tamika Small-Campbell's area of study when she attended the University of the West Indies, but after having several bad experiences with domestic service providers, she decided to find a solution to the problem.

After much research and training, the former Immaculate High School for Girls graduate developed a company that takes care of the needs of many householders.

Services offered

The company called Executive Housekeeping and Laundry (EH&L), provides services including: affordable house cleaning, domestic staff training, baby-sitting and nannies, child transportation and scheduling, child education and tutoring, grocery shopping and delivery, ground maintenance, utility bill monitoring and payment, household plumbing, electricals and carpentry.

But where did the 27-year-old get her ideas? "I gained experience working in hospitality when I lived overseas ... I understand what quality housekeeping should be from the commercial aspect, so I wished for myself that some of those concepts could be transferred domestically and I decided that I needed to do it because it didn't exist," Small-Campbell told Flair.

Quality service

Determined to bring quality service to the domestic service industry Tamika, recruited persons with experience in the field and offered training.

"I chose the best candidates and gave hands-on training. They were given written courses in the form of hand-outs and booklets which they are tested on regularly," Small explained.

The three-month-old company has five full-time housekeepers on staff. All other employees are part-time.

Service offered by the EH&L ranges from as little as $250 to $7,000.
