The Editor, Sir:
At a recent meeting of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Peter Bunting made a point that Mandeville does not need an aerodrome as when the next phase of Highway 2000 is finished it will only take 45 minutes from Kingston to Mandeville.
This gives the impression that the people of Mandeville and its environs only want to travel to Kingston. Mr. Bunting, we do not believe, like you, that Kingston is Jamaica. We have reasons for business and pleasure to travel all around this island and so do many investors.
Our own Sally Porteous already has a team who have been speaking to investors for Mandeville and its environs which would be looking at coming straight to Mandeville from all over the Caribbean etc. Our town has got to look beyond bauxite and plan for future development. Mr. Jackie Minott, O.D., has headed a team that has created the most comprehensive Parish Development Plan in the island. We have no intention of locking down our town. We want to be a part of growth and development of Jamaica.
I am, etc.,
