Penalties save Harbour View
published: Monday | October 22, 2007

Anthony Minott, Freelance Writer

Champions Harbour View fought bravely to hold off debutants Sporting Central Academy and earn a 2-2 draw in a Cash Plus Premier League fourth round football match at Harbour View Mini Stadium yesterday.

"We played brilliant at times and poorly at other times, we gave up a penalty in the last minute, we only have ourselves to blame," said Sporting's coach Kevin Williams.

Harbour View's Christopher Harvey converted two second-half penalties in a game that looked like it was out of his team's hands.

Sporting Central shot out to a 2-0 lead at half-time through strikes from Karl Wiggan (18th) and Hugh Gray (44th). However, they couldn't maintain their standard of play and Harbour View came roaring back in the second half, first through an infringement in the penalty box, forcing referee Ricardo Salesman to award a penalty, that Harvey converted.

Then Fabian Taylor was brought down in the box on the stroke of full time by Romaine Barnes and referee Salesman pointed to the spot again, and Harvey converted again.

"We didn't start out well, we gave up two goals that we shouldn't have given up," said Harbour View's coach Lenworth Hyde Sr. "However, we fought gallantly, showed real determination and got back to draw."
