BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):The West Indies Cricket Board yesterday announced Dominican Dr. Donald Peters as its new chief executive officer.
He takes over the post from Bruce Aanensen of Trinidad and Tobago, who resigned in August after just three months on the job.
In a media release, the WICB indicated that Dr. Peters, a former professor and college president in the United States and Bermuda, has "an exceptionally successful track record at senior management level in several different academic institutions".
His last posting was as president of the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago.
He takes up the job at the WICB office in Antigua from November 5, and the WICB indicated that he had demonstrated success in leading programmes that have helped organisations meet their institutional objectives and increase their revenue streams in very complex environments.
"I am excited to be selected as CEO and look forward to working with the organisation to provide the support and administration necessary to make our team move once again to the top of international cricket," Dr. Peters said. "I figure I have the skills that can make a difference. When I take a job, I like to give 110 per cent and I like to win. I'm excited about the prospects."
Chosen by a committee
Dr. Peters was named as the new CEO hours after former Australia batsman John Dyson was appointed as the new coach of the West Indies team. Dyson replaces another Australian, Bennett King, who quit in May after the World Cup.
He was chosen by a committee, set up by the WICB, to examine the candidates for the job. The other two candidates on the shortlist were Dr. Ernest Hilaire of St. Lucia and Michael Hall of Jamaica.
Dr. Julian Hunte, president of the WICB, endorsed Dr. Peters and said he was looking forward to working with him.
"We appointed a committee to interview the candidates and of the three that were shortlisted, he was deemed to be the best suited to take the board forward," Dr. Hunte said. "He has vast experience and he is generally an all-rounder who knows how to get the job done. His managerial experience will be of immense value to us.
"The ability to be flexible and to interface with staff and the players is crucial. He has the ability to work at all levels and he will bring leadership."
