Mullings commits to serving postal service
published: Monday | October 22, 2007

Michael Gentles (second left), postmaster general/CEO, outlines an aspect of the primary sorting area operations to the new Telecoms Minister, Hon. Clive Mullings (third left), during the minister's tour of the Central Sorting Office on Thursday, October 11. At left is Karlene Francis, director general of that ministry, while at right, postal workers sort mail.

The Hon. Clive Mullings, Minister of Energy, Mining and Telecommunications, who now has portfolio responsibility for the postal service, went on a familiarisation tour of the Central Sorting Office (the postal service's headquarters) on Thursday, October 11, during World Post Week celebrations.

He interacted with numerous postal staff at all levels, and later joined the senior managers for formal introductions.

Also touring with the Minister were Karlene Francis, director general, as well as Cecil McCain, director of post, at that ministry.

MULLINGS' COMMENTS

Others from left are Karlene Francis, director general, MEMT; Michael Gentles, postmaster general/CEO; Glennamoe McNabb, deputy postmaster general (administration); and Owena Beepot-Pryce, deputy postmaster general (operations).

Minister Mullings lauded the work and contribution of the postal service. He indicated his intention to increase the efficiency at post offices within existing resources with special attention given to enhancing customer service.

Minister Mullings committed himself to the speedy revision of the regulatory framework with a view to implementation of the modernisation plans. He said, "We should tackle problems as a team and not individually. The postal service plays a key role in helping to drive the economy and it should not be viewed as just postmen on bicycles anymore."
