Binnie, Parris collect Caribbean victories
published: Wednesday | October 10, 2007

KINGSTON (CMC):

REGIONAL UNDER-19 champions Chris Binnie and Cheri-Ann Parris collected two rare Caribbean wins as the Pan American Junior Squash Championship served off on Monday at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston.

Jamaican Binnie defeated Ecuador's Jose Alvaro, and Parris, of Barbados, ousted Mexico's Rosa Hernandez in their opening games of the tournament at the Liguanea Club. Trinidad and Tobago's Justin Gomes and the Guyanese pair of Kristian Jeffrey and Kayla Jeffrey also registered wins.

In the boys division, No. 3 seed Binnie, who retained his Caribbean Under-19 title in Tortola this past summer and was a beaten semi-finalist in the Caribbean seniors here in August, dropped the third game against Alvaro before completing a tense win 9-2, 9-3, 7-9, 10-8. Fourth seeded Kristian Jeffrey, of Guyana, eliminated American Rudy Weiskopf 9-3, 9-0, 9-0 and Trinidad and Tobago's Justin Gomes defeated Guatemala's Luis Flores 9-7, 9-0, 9-10, 9-1 in other evening games.

Parris dominated Hernandez 9-2, 9-1, 9-0 for her win and Kayla Jeffrey rallied from a first-game defeat to dismiss the Dominican Republic's Indhira Navarro 9-0, 9-2, 9-0

Local players Brooke Burrowes, Leisa Robotham, Lauren Mah-food and Guyana's Keisha Jeffrey lost their morning matches
