STATHS retain perfect record
published: Wednesday | October 10, 2007

THE PARTY was ruined for the handful of spectators who braved the turbulent weather to support community-based team Trench Town as they sunk 4-1 to St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) at the Tony Spaulding Complex yesterday.

However, STATHS, the Group F leaders, led by a hat-trick from Adrian Christie, had to battle from behind in order to maintain their perfect record, which sees them unbeaten in seven games.

Sloppy pitch

STATHS dominated the early play on the sloppy pitch, but in the 17th minute it was a tap-in effort from Romaine Irons which not only saw STATHS's defensive unit breached for the first time all season, but also give the local fans plenty to hoot about.

However, Shavon Carlton cut short the underdogs' dreams of heading into half-time with the lead when he rose to nick a well-placed header past the Trench Town custodian in the 45th minute. Forward Christie blasted a powerful 62nd-minute shot high into the roof of the net from a tough angle to send his side into the lead, and then sent another cracking shot from the edge of the 18-yard area off the underside of the crossbar in the 73rd minute.

Got lucky

He got lucky in completing his hat-trick when a defensive clearance by Trench Town held up in water and he beat a defender and coolly slotted home.

Due to the poor weather, eight other games scheduled for yesterday were rescheduled. The Group A, B and F games have been pushed back to October 23, while the Group C and D games will be played tomorrow.
