ST. JAMES High School's bid to establish a substantial lead atop the standings in Zone A of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup was thwarted yesterday when they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Herbert Morrison in their Montego Bay derby at Jarrett Park.

In a game characterised by indecisive play by both teams, Herbert Morrison took the lead midway in the second half through Tajay Higgins. However, St. James drew level from the penalty spot late in the game when Nicholi Barrett scored his ninth goal of the season. By virtue of their one point from the game, St. James High now lead the group with 13 points - one more than Cornwall College, who did not play yesterday. Herbert Morrison are third on eight points.

High-profile game

In another high-profile game in western Jamaica yesterday, former champions Rusea's blanked Green Island 5-0 to move to 15 points, the same as unbeaten Zone B leaders Frome Technical, whose opponents Knockalva failed to show for the game at the Frome Sports Ground.

"We arrived at the venue ready to play but the Knockalva team did not show up," said Boysie Nicholson, the coach of Frome. "I see no reason why we should not get the points from this game."

The competition will continue this afternoon with champions Glenmuir among the teams that will be on show. Glenmuir (12), in second place in Zone I behind Garvey Maceo (13), will be gunning for full points against Central on their home turf.
