Job training targeted
published: Monday | October 8, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

It was sad to see the thousands of persons (mainly males), overflowing the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's office, seeking employment for the Canadian overseas jobs in the construction field. Many of the aspirants were untrained.

For sometime, the Boys' Town Management Advisory Committee (MAC) has been aware of the need to improve the roughly 10 per cent of the school population from the Trench Town and adjoining areas by attending the HEART Trust/NTA institution. The problem is compounded because they are unable to pass the entry requirement and the dysfunctional home situation.

The MAC, at our last meeting in July, planned to include during Boys' Town Week a job fair and the launch of an introduction building course (level 1). The need for a social worker to help with remedial training and counselling was also recognised.

I am, etc.,

KARL GOODISON

Chairman

Boys' Town HEART Trust/NTA
