TWO POLICEMEN assigned to the Stony Hill Police Station were shot and injured during a shoot-out with gunmen in Stony Hill, St. Andrew, early yesterday morning. One of the gunmen was killed.
Sgt. Troy Anderson told The Gleaner that both policemen were in hospital. He said one of the policemen was in serious condition while the other had been listed as stable.
One of the men who engaged the police in the shoot-out was killed. He had not yet been identified up to late yesterday.
The policemen were patrolling the Lane Pass area of Stony Hill at 12:45 a.m. when they ordered a Nissan Sunny vehicle to stop.
The car reportedly stopped but the occupants jumped out and allegedly fired shots at the police. The police, according to the Constabulary Communication Network, responded and one of the men was hit.
His accomplices escaped.
The man and the policemen were taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead and the lawmen admitted. The names of the injured policemen have not been disclosed.
Fourteen members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force have been killed to date this year. The most recent fatality was Const. Richard King who was killed on Orange Street on September 30.
