Youngsters impress at go-kart meet
published: Sunday | October 7, 2007

Glenroy Sinclair, Assignment Coordinator

The pep talks and tutoring he has been getting from the legendary racing driver, Peter 'Jacko' Moodie, has begun to shape the career of 10-year-old Colin Daley Jr. into a world-class driver.

At last Sunday's race meet, the Kingsway Preparatory and High School student registered a hat-trick of wins in the Rotax Mini Max Class, to share the spotlight with Mark Anthony Eaton, Peter Moodie Jr., Peter Rae and Joel Jackson.

"He is living my dream," says Colin Daley Sr., the youngster's dad. "This was what I wanted to do when I was his age, but I never got the opportunity," Daley further said.

The auto parts entrepreneur said his son has been accompanying him to motorsports events since he was two. He was part of a Jamaican contingent which visited Colorado in the United States a month ago in an attempt to qualify for the Rotax World Go Kart finals. "He is inspired by speed, his first love is motorsports and his ambition is to race professionally," said Mr. Daley. Apart from young Daley's performance, the veteran Mike Simmons showed some signs of returning to form after his ding-dong battle with Peter Rae in the Rotax Masters Class. Simmons finished second twice and took the chequered flag in the final event of that class.

The six-year-old sensation, Mark Anthony Eaton, continues to dominate the Baby Class. He won two of the three races. It was also another good day for Joel Jackson.
