The Editor Sir:
I am an avid reader of The Gleaner and I have a few concerns about the frequent migration of our very qualified professionals to other countries, among other concerns. I have just migrated to one of the small islands to work as teacher. Let me just say that these countries do not make it easy for us. We are blessed in Jamaica; Jamaicans are warm and loving. It is such a pity that we have to leave to search for 'greener pastures' and work for 'more' money.
The Government and Opposition need to put effective measures in place to ensure that the professionals stay and build our country. Too many qualified professionals, such as our nurses, doctors, skilled workers and business people are leaving Jamaica, as if there are plagues there. Something needs to be done. Mostly teachers and nurses are leaving, and they are doing so quite frequently
Prime Bruce Golding needs to work with the Minister of Education, Andrew Holness, to increase teachers' pay and offer some incentives that will hold us in Jamaica. Jamaican teachers are the best in the world and, as result of that, other countries grab us quite easily because we work really hard and we are very dedicated.
I am, etc.,
