Women often complain that they would love to wear make-up but they just do not know how to apply it. Some believe it is hard and a lot of hassle, but once you know what to do and you get the hang of it, it is very simple.

Flair with the assistance of Tamika Megghross, senior make-up artist/consultant at anne martin, shows you how.

Step1

Cleansing the skin

Start with a freshly-washed face (and hands, too). You could get a facial, or do one yourself. You want your face to be a clear and smooth canvas for you, the 'artist', to do your art. Use antibacterial soap if you have acne. Apply toner by taking a cotton pad that has been dampened in warm water and sweep it over your face. Toner will restore the ph level of your skin and pick up any remaining dirt.

Step 2

Shaping brows

Use a tweezer, razor or wax eyebrows to define your features.

Step 3

Moisturising face

No matter what type of skin you have, massage a light moisturiser into your face, avoiding the eye area. This will enhance the natural beauty of the skin.

Step 4

Foundation

A cream to powder may be used on most skin types. Use to even out skin tone before applying other products. The trick is to apply foundation in a patting motion in areas with blemishes and blend out other areas.

Step 5

Concealer

Use a concealer under eyes to even out eye's tone.

Step 6

Finishing powder

Applying finishing powder to set foundation for a longer wear and to get a matte finish.

Step 7

Eyebrow filler

Apply eyebrow filler to define the shape of the brows because if the brows are not next to perfect, they it will throw off the entire face.

Step 8

Highlight

Use a highlighter to enhance browbone. The lightest shades go at the browbone, the other shades go to in the crease and any colour that complements your outfit, goes on the lids. The trick is to blend all colours together to give it an even finish.

Step 9

Liner

Apply liner thinner on the inside of eye lids and thicker on outer section to open the eyes a bit.

Step 10

Mascara

Apply mascara to enhance the lashes making then fuller and longer.

Step 11

Blush

Smile to find the apples of your cheeks, and apply blush to the apples or below, whichever you prefer. Also, you can add a darker colour under the contour to lenghten the face, giving the illusion of a smaller and slimmer face.

Step 12

Lip liner/stick/gloss

Use lip liner around the exact line of the lips then blend it out. Then apply lipstick and a little gloss to add shimmer.

Tips provided by Tamika Megghross, senior make-up artist/consultant at anne martin.
