WESTERN BUREAU:
CLARENDON COLLEGE made it three wins from three starts in the ISSA/Pepsi/ daCosta Cup yesterday when a Damali Samuels' strike gave them a 1-0 win over Lennon in their top-of-the-table Zone H clash in Chapelton, Clarendon.
"The performance was not what I expected because we have some injuries in the camp and some players had personal issues that we had to cope with," said Garfield Robinson, the coach of the Clarendon College team, after the match.
"Although we have now won three games straight, I still see some weaknesses that we will need to work on and correct."
Fine style
In Zone K, the Annotto Bay team, which made its debut in the zone with an impressive 4-0 win against St. Mary High but was subsequently held to a 1-1 draw by Brimmervale before buckling 2-1 to St. Mary Technical, returned to its winning ways in fine style yesterday, hammering Tacky 7-0.
By virtue of the win, Annotto Bay, who got their goals from Oshane Dunkley (three), Lasana Thomas, Sheldon Davis, Nigel Davis and a Tacky defender, have jumped to seven points, one behind group leaders Brimmervale, who played to a 0-0 draw with Iona.
The competition, which is now on in earnest, will move into its fourth round this afternoon with 20 games scheduled in eight of the 13 zones. Among the games that should attract special interest are the Zone B showdown between Lucea and Cam-bridge in Lucea, Hanover; the Zone C clash between Manning's and Petersfield in Savanna-la-Mar and the Belair against Manchester top-of-the-table Zone F encounter at the Kirkvine Sports Club in Manchester.
Impressive record
Despite only playing one game to date, eight-time champions Rusea's High School have been installed as one of the competition's favourites on account of their impressive pre-season record and the dismissive manner in which they spanked Green Island 3-0 in their lone game.
Lightning and heavy rain in the Cold Spring area of Hanover last Saturday afternoon forced a premature end to Rusea's second game against Merlene Ottey.
The game between Manning's and Petersfield should be closely watched, as while a win for Manning's would see them jump to nine points, at least a two-point cushion atop the standings, a win for Petersfield would see them join Manning's as joint group leaders with six points.
