Clarendon College, Lennon in big showdown
published: Tuesday | September 25, 2007

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

Fireworks are expected in Chapelton, Clarendon, this afternoon when the red-hot Clarendon College host Lennon in an epic Zone H top-of-the-table clash - the feature game in today's round of matches in the 2007 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup.

Clarendon College (CC), which have maximum nine points from three games and Lennon, which have seven points from two wins and a draw, are both high-scoring teams. Clarendon College have nine goals, inclusive of their 8-0 spanking of Claude McKay, while Lennon have 18, which include Saturday's 12-1 mauling of the hapless Claude McKay.

While Lennon will be banking heavily on their leading goalscorer Levaughn Williams, and his strike partner, Terry Bishop, to upstage their opponents, the Garfield Robinson-coached Clarendon College, which is hunting their first title since 1998, should prove hard to contain.

Interesting showdowns

Another game that should generate much interest is the Zone K games involving Oracabessa and Brimmervale, the joint zone leaders with seven points each. Oracabessa will play away to St. Mary High, while Brimmervale will also be away, to Iona. Annotto Bay, on four points, could climb into the mix with victory over Tacky today.

Today's games

The Zone E showdown between second place Black River (4) and struggling Newell (0) should be a key encounter for the Black River team, which is pressing to draw closer to group leaders, Munro
