Pagon is raring to return
published: Thursday | September 20, 2007

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

MELBOURNE MIDDLE-order batsman Donovan Pagon is looking to get back into the Jamaican set-up ahead of the regional KFC limited-overs tournament.

Pagon, who last represented Jamaica against Guyana in the four-day Carib Beer Series last year, missed most of this local season with a broken right wrist. However, he is ready to take back a spot in the team.

He said he is fully recovered after doing an operation to remove a bone.

"It's hardly bothering me now. I am doing physiotherapy, strength work and it's coming on pretty well," said Pagon yesterday.

At present, he is taking part in the Jamaica trials and yesterday, in the sixth match at Elletson Road, he made 26 for Keith Hibbert's XI as they beat Tamar Lambert's XI by five wickets. In previous matches, Pagon, who played two Test matches for the West Indies against South Africa in 2005, had scores of 18, eight, two and 43.

Getting better

Despite those mediocre scores, he hopes to be selected.

While saying he is not in the best of form, he believes things are getting better.

"I am feeling more confident at the wicket and, hopefully, I can carry on and make a lot of hundreds because that's the aim - making hundreds and being consistent."

Meanwhile, Donavan Sinclair and Australian-born Brandon Nash scored half centuries in yesterday's trial at Elletson Road.

Sinclair hit 10 fours in making 98 not out off 112 balls and, along with Krishmar Santokie, 43 (four fours and two sixes off 38 balls), helped Lambert's XI to 218 for nine off their allotted 40 overs. Andre Russell took 3-20.

In reply, Nash scored 58 not out and, with support from Brenton Parchment (37) and Keith Hibbert (36) carried Hibbert's XI to 219 for five in 38.5 overs. Santokie took 2-20.
