Displaced principal goes to Court of Appeal
published: Thursday | September 20, 2007

Wilson - Contributed

The former provisional principal of Maldon High School, St. James, who was removed from the post in June last year, has taken his case to the Court of Appeal.

He is appealing against a Supreme Court ruling in July which upheld a decision by the Ministry of Education to replace him.

Derrick Wilson is asking the Court of Appeal to find that Supreme Court Judge Marva McIntosh erred when she ruled in favour of the ministry.

Wilson is contending that he should have been given an opportunity to make representation to the board of management so as to refute or contradict allegations levelled against him by the board.

Wilson said, in documents filed in the Court of Appeal Registry, that the judge failed to determine whether or not he was regularly assessed within the provisions of the education regulations.

Residents in the area had staged several protests in September last year against Mr. Wilson's removal.
