DURBAN, South Africa (AP):

ZIMBABWE PULLED off a shock five-wicket victory against Twenty20 World Cup favourites Australia yesterday, winning with one ball to spare.

Brendan Taylor scored an undefeated 60 in Zimbabwe's total of 139 for five.

Zimbabwe restricted Australia to 138 for nine with some brilliant fielding after being asked to bowl by Ricky Ponting at the Newlands Stadium.

In an earlier match, Shahid Afridi took four wickets in Pakistan's 51-run victory over Scotland.

Scotland captain Ryan Watson won the toss at the Kingsmead Stadium and sent Pakistan in to bat.

Pakistan reached 50 for three in the eighth over of the Group D match. But Younis Khan hit 41 off 29 balls and Pakistan recovered to 171 off their 20 overs, with Afridi hitting two sixes in his 22 off seven balls.

Scotland were unable to cope with the leg- spinners from Afridi who finished with 4-19 in his four overs.

Gull too much

Fast bowler Umar Gul was also too much for the Scottish batsmen, taking 4-25.

In the opening match of the day at the same venue, Mark Gillespie took four wickets to lead New Zealand to a nine-wicket win over Kenya.

Sent in to bat, Kenya lost four wickets for just one run by the second over, and were eventually bowled out for 73 in 16.5 overs.

Gillespie had the best bowling figures of 4-7 off 2.5 overs, while captain Daniel Vettori, Chris Martin and Shane Bond all took two wickets apiece.

New Zealand cruised to victory, passing the target in the eighth over. Peter Fulton finished the match off with two consecutive sixes to end on 21 not out. Lou Vincent was the sole Kiwi wicket to fall after scoring 27 off 20 balls.
