Time for Truth Commission
published: Thursday | September 13, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Through you, Mr. Editor, I wish to address the Hon. Bruce Golding, the new Prime Minister of Jamaica.

Dear Mr. Golding,

Your speech delivered on the occasion of your installation to the highest office of the land was indeed refreshing. I believe you spoke then to critical issues in the life of the nation which need to be urgently addressed.

I note that you are determined to do things for the nation that are long outstanding and which really need the political will.

I am, hereby, urging you to draw on your reserve of political will to ensure that before long, this nation has the benefit of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to probe the nation's history of political violence. This would place some truth in the public domain and, thereby, help to significantly cleanse the soul of the nation.

May God give you the courage so to do.

I am, etc.,
