Don't blame the jurors
published: Tuesday | September 11, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

This is in response to statements made by Chief Justice Zaila McCalla about jurors not showing for duties and doctors writing false medical certificates.

In the past, those chosen to do jury duties were proud, willing and eager to serve in that capacity. Nowadays, it's a totally different story. Do I blame the jurors? Absolutely not. One has to think about putting one's life on the line.

It's kind of sad to say this, but it takes a concerted effort among crime fighters, citizens, politicians and lawmakers to make this work. Recruit more police; seek help from the army and dispatch them in all the crevices and corners so that as soon as these perpetrators pop up, their cases are dealt with, instantly.

I am, etc.,
