The Editor, Sir:
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Golding on the Jamaica Labour Party's recent victory at the polls. As Prime Minister-designate, there are many things that require his attention, but the following are the most urgent.
At the top of the list are crimes committed by the notorious gunmen who are enemies of the country, shooting and killing the security forces and innocent adults and children.
Many of us who live abroad would like to return home, and contribute to the development of the country, but are afraid to do so because of the high rate of crime. Please do not take this lightly, for the future of Jamaica depends on getting rid of those criminals. Jamaica is known abroad as the murder capital of the world. Who would want to return to a place like that?
Second, itis health care. I was in Jamaica a few months ago, and was shocked to see the type of health care that was offered. Please take a tour of Kingston Public and the Victoria Jubilee Hospitals, and you will understand what I am talking about.
Third, it is education. The schools have deteriorated so much that I really don't know who is responsible, whether it is the system, or the teachers.
I am, etc.,
