Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has brushed aside an opposition call for him to resign by Thursday as a women's organisation here threw its full support behind him.

"I shall not speak as yet in response and in reaction to those who have called for me to resign.

"At an appropriate timeI shall respond, but all I will say is that I have too much work to do, there are too many challenges in Dominica for me to waste my time to respond to those who have nothing to do," Skerrit told supporters of his Dominica Labour Party at the weekend.

He said allegations of corruption thrown at him were in an attempt to damage his reputation, but would not succeed.

"I will say to you, let not your heart be troubled, I am standing as solid as a rock in Dominica," he said.

Meanwhile, the Labour Women's Organisation (LWO) said it was not ruling out the possibility of staging a march in the streets of Roseau to rally support for the Prime Minister.

President of the LWO, Annette Bates, said there was unwavering support for Skerrit within her organisation.

"We will continue to support our hero, Skerro our hero. If needs be, we will take to the streets of Roseau to rally support for our hero," she said.

The United Workers Party last Thursday gave Skerrit seven days in which to resign even as it called for a probe into allegations that he has amassed assets which could not be explained by his legal sources of income.

Opposition Leader Earl Williams said if the Prime Minister did not step down, he would ask the president of Dominica to intervene in the matter.

"Should Skerrit fail to resign within seven days, the United Workers Party will call on the president of Dominica to remove him from office using the executive authority vested in the president under the constitution," he said.
