Take Bella In Bloom

The three-year-old and up grade one race for the Viceroy Trophy over 1800 metres. Secondary feature the Knutsford Park Cup over 1200 metres for three-year-olds.

The Pick-9 eluded punters for the 10th consecutive raceday at Caymanas Park last Saturday and the carryover for tomorrow's meet stands at a whopping $9.8 million.

With the pot having grown enormously and the big spenders now taking dead aim, Pick-9 activity should intensify tremendously. This being the case, a payout in excess of $12 million looks a mere formality.

The 12-race programme offers two Super-6s and there is also a carryover from last Saturday - $950,000. The Pick-9 embraces races four to 12. We look at the second Super-6 which gets under way in the seventh race over 1100 metres to be contested by seven horses from the claiming spread $260,000-$230,000.

Included in the line-up is the very fit BLACK RIVER who scored easily over the straight five course in the fairly good time of 59.2 last Saturday. She should bring fitness into play and win from the down in class, DON'T STAYNAKED.

The eighth race, a restricted allowance IV (non-winners of three) over 1500 metres for native-bred four-year-olds and up, should resolve itself into a straight fight between the filly BELLA IN BLOOM and GETAWAYBOY, both having performed well in their last two races. The Wayne DaCosta-trained BELLA IN BLOOM has been knocking at the door in three races since finishing second to THE SMOKER over 1300 metres on May 23, and with the distance just perfect, gets the nod over GETAWAY BOY, who failed by a nose to stave off ABSOLUTE STORMER over the circular nine course on July 28.

Toughest race

HARMONICS, now dropped in class after running below par behind BLACK RIVER on a $210,000 claming tag last Saturday, is preferred to ME LLAMO in the ninth race over 1400 metres for $170,000 claimers. The toughest race of the day is undoubtedly the 10th for the Knutsford Park Cup for native-bred three-year-olds over 1200 metres, to be contested by 13 starters.

Horses having good claims include PERFECT STEP, BUNKER DUST, MAGIC MOMENT, RIGGED TO WIN, STARRY EYES, GRANDPA'S DREAM and DUBIE. In a really tough race, Wayne DaCosta's RIGGED TO WIN, having finished second to PRINCE TERRON and GRACE MARIE over 1100 and 1300 metres respectively in recent weeks, should prove too strong for rivals in deep stretch, but DUBIE, GRANDPA'S DREAM and MAGIC MOMENT will not be out of it. Pick-9 players should approach this particular race with caution.

Leading 'Horse of the Year' contender DISTINCTLY IRISH, bidding for his fourth consecutive win, looks a banker in the 11th for the Viceroy Trophy, while it should be the imported colt WHO'S STAYIN ON to resume winning ways ahead of TASSY'S WHIP, FIRETRAIN and ITALQUEEN in the closing straight five race.
