WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Will (Jude Law) is a partner in a thriving landscape architecture firm which he runs with his friend Sandy (Martin Freeman). Things could not be better, but Will spends less and less time at home with his beautiful, melancholy partner, Liv (Robin Wright Penn) and her psychologically troubled 13-year-old daughter Bea. A series of break-ins at Will's office prompts him to go on a stakeout. One night he sees one of the culprits, Miro (Ravi Gavron), and follows him to where he lives with his mother, Amira (Juliette Binoche). Both, who are Bosnian refugees, live in a fairly poor area and mother works hard to be both parents for Miro. Will, however, decides to get close to the family to find out more about the son and takes clothes to Amira (who is a seamstress) to mend. The charged atmosphere at home eventually pushes Will to start looking outside the relationship and he turns to Amira for comfort. But the relationship soon becomes even more complicated when the son finds out and confesses to his mom that he stole from Will. The mother in turn uses the trust gained to ensure the safety and future of her son. However, this fails to work and later it is Will's partner who selflessly does what is necessary to save Miro from prison, while helping Will discover what he really wants in life.
LONG STORY SHORT: It is a blend of drama with too many themes that were not thoroughly developed and explored. Will cheats with Amiro and when Liv finds out, they all come together and try to save Amiro's son, Miro, who had become involved with a robbing racket.
THE REEL LOW-DOWN:If you like dramas such as The English Patient, Cold Mountain and Chocolat, then you would enjoy this movie.
