Veteran skill came through for the Jamaican team to the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships held recently in the Dominican Republic.

Super seniors Dennis Atkinson and Fred 'Cricket' Sutherland, were able to secure a second place finish in the Higgs and Higgs trophy. The two combined to register the two lowest scores of the final two rounds shooting two 70s in the better ball format.

Defending the George Teale Trophy, Jamaica could not fend off Puerto Rico and Trinidad and had to settle for third.

Good performances

Maggie Lyn, who was teamed with Leiza Blakeley and newcomer Lindsey Chang struggled after shooting a 79 on the first day, but it was Chang's 77 on day two which was the highlight of the Ladies team.

Mark Newnham and Robert Chin also placed third in the Mid Amateur category, for the Ramon Baez Trophy.

The island's Hoerman Cup team also saw good performances from youngster Fabian Campbell. Campbell who seemed to be carrying the team all by himself over the first three days with scores of 75, 75, 74 had a rough final day with an 84 to lead the team to a fifth place finish in the category.

The Francis & Steele-Perkins team of Hopeton Marshall and John Smith finished ninth in that section. The Jamaica Money Market Broker's Limited-sponsored Jamaica Team finished fourth overall of ten participating teams for the Arthur Ziadie Cup captured by the Dominican Republic.
