Sylvia Grant won Jamaica's fourth medal at the Para Pan American Games yesterday.

Grant who had earlier captured a silver in the javelin collected a bronze yesterday when she placed third in the discus in class F57 with a throw of 22.02m and 835 points. Coleen Morrison placed sixth with a throw of 23.13m and 736 points.

The gold medal was won by Roseanne Santos of Brazil with a throw of 30.52m and 972 points and silver went to Montiel Rosales of Mexico with a throw 28.02m and 891 points.

Kevon Reid placed fourth in the shot put class F55 with a throw of 8.99m and 794 points. With three consecutive throws of 8.68m, 8.86m and 8.99m, he broke the Pan American record for the F55 class.

He, however, missed out on a medal as his class was merged. With the points system being used the lower classes have more of an advantage in winning medals especially if they throw a fairly good distance for their class.

Jamaica's medal tally is now one gold, two silver and a bronze.

The gold medal went to American Scott Winkler in class F54 with a throw of 10.23m and 1053 points setting a new world record for class F54.

The silver medal went to Mauro Maximo de Jesus in class F53 of Mexico with a throw of 8.55m and 937 points which equalled the world record for class F53. .

The bronze medal went to Gonzalez Figueredo in class F33 of Cuba with a throw of 7.52m and 824 points.

Today is a rest day for Jamaica. Tomorrow, Bryan Ingram class F44 and Toto Campbell class F42 will go up against each other in the long jump event which sees classes F42, 44 and 46 merged.
