NOTE-WORTHY: After the speech
published: Friday | August 17, 2007

After the speech

Each politician has the power in his/her hands to stem the tide of violence in this country, if he/she wishes. Those area leaders and Dons loyal to the politicians can in an instant call for ceasefire intheir communities and it would happen. Friendship, nepotism and business do not make good bedfellows; all politicians, as well as persons who hold positions of prominence should separate them now. Both sides have made promises that were never fulfilled. Weigh who has a genuine heart, 'sticktuitiveness' and a desire to serve, as opposed to running from pillar to post, because they have an insatiable desire to lead. Mouth mek fe talk. After the speech, who will back it up with action? Time alone, only time will tell. Don't mek the wrong choice 'cause then we think we a go in a heaven, but we will be living in hell.

  • Family search

I am trying to get in touch with several members of my mother's family whom she hasn't seen or heard from in many years. Her name is Laura Morgan. She is from Middleton district, St. Thomas, and I am sure that some her family still live there. However, my sister and I haven't been able to get in touch with any of them for many years. She is seriously ill and my sister and I are seeking the help of these family members: Myrtle Morgan (Coolie), Richard Morgan, Earl Morgan, Edna Morgan, Aretha, Mirriam, Norman, Valerie, Judith, Lorraine, Jasmine and Winston Morgan, and Melvina Stewart. If anyone knows of their whereabouts, please contact me or my sister at 423-2252 for Brenda or 393-6176 for Caron. Thank you so much.

  • Port Royal relic

I was saddened to see the state of the Port Royal Post Office in 'Jamaica Gleaner online'. I was married in Port Royal some 20 years ago, and being ex-Royal Navy, I was struck by the relics of the past that abound. The post office in Port Royal was opened in 1833, and at its peak must have catered for the needs of thousands of young men, far from home. Jamaica has such a wonderful heritage, but sadly, so neglected when compared with, for example, Nelson's Dock Yard in Antigua, and so many other sites in the West Indies. Wake up to your heritage before it is too late. It could be a wonderful tourist attraction, with a little TLC!
