PM Gonsalves urges vigilance on 'Dean'
published: Friday | August 17, 2007

Gonsalves

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC):

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves yesterday warned Vincentians to be watchful of Hurricane Dean, while expressing relief that the country may be spared the worst of the hurricane's fury.

Gonsalves, chairman of this country's National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), said while it appeared that the worst might be avoided, St. Vincent and the Grenadines' topography meant that heavy rain fall could lead to landslides and cause a lot of damage.

He said late Wednesday NEMO met and went through the hurricane watch checklist to make sure all emergency systems were in order.
