Residents tight-lipped after triple murder
published: Wednesday | August 8, 2007

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

Spanish Town, St. Catherine:

The St. Catherine South police said yesterday that the murders of three men in Newland, Portmore, were being treated as gang related.

Dead are Devon Carter, otherwise called 'War Lord', 20, of Myers Crescent; Omar McKoy, otherwise known as 'Brains', 27, of Power Lane, Newland, and Lyndon Wright, 27, of Peace Lane, also in Newland. All three men were unemployed.

According to operations officer for the St. Catherine branch, Dep. Supt. Clive Blair, the killing of the men resulted from orders being given by a man in prison.

ORDERS FROM PRISON

"We learnt that a man in prison is giving orders for persons to be killed and this is being done," he said.

He said the police were doing all they can to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Residents of the area reportedly heard gunshots about 1:30 yesterday morning and, several minutes later, found the bodies of the three men along Power Lane with gunshot wounds to the heads. The police were called.

The situation was tense and residents told The Gleaner they did not want to comment further. Several heavily armed police personnel were seen in the area searching for the men who carried out the attack.

The homicide division is conducting further investigations into the killings.
