Heated battle for spot in final
published: Thursday | July 26, 2007

Two of the three teams locked in a heated battle for a spot in the KFC/National Basketball League (NBL) mid-season final, Urban Knights and Denham Town Wizards, will match up in crucial encounters at the National Stadium courts tonight.

In the opening game, which tips off at 6:00p.m., it will be a battle of the former champions when Urban Knights face Tivoli Gardens All Stars. In the second game, Denham Town Wizards will be desperate to get a win against defending champions St. George's Slayers.

Tight race

The Knights, Wizards and newcomers Majesty Gardens are all in a tight race to join the Slayers, who cemented their spot in the final with a win over Majesty Gardens on Sunday.

With identical records of 8-2, the Knights and the Wizards are the front runners, while Majesty Gardens remain on the outside. The newly promoted team won six games and lost three and will require losses from both the Knights and Wizards to nip a spot in the final.

Wins for both teams would put the Wizards in the driver's seat as they would join the Slayers. Though both teams would then join the Slayers with identical 8-2 records, the Knights would be out of contention following a loss to the Slayers on the opening day of the season and another to the Wizards a few weeks ago.
