Jardine ... this promises to be one hell of a meet.
The last time they were scheduled to clash, mechanical problems kept Peter 'Bull' Thompson and Doug Gore away from the starting grid, leaving hundreds of die-hard motorsport fans at the Dover Raceway, St. Ann, disappointed.
Everything has now been sorted out, the cars are ready again, and the drivers are buzzing with excitement for the August 6 Cable and Wireless High Speed Independence Day race meet, which will be held at Dover.
"Based on the line-up, this promises to be one hell of a meet. It is going to be a ding-dong battle between the top drivers," commented Hilary Jardine, president of theJamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC).
His comments were based on the competitiveness at the Easter meet in April, which was dominated by Doug Gore and his sibling, Matthew, who disposed of the opposition led by 'Bull' Thompson, Peter Rae and David Summerbell.
Upgrade
Thompson's tube-framed Mazda RX7 has since been upgraded and fitted with a new turbo-charged engine, Peter Rae's New York Brake/Auto Don RX7 Mazda is back from the workshop and Sum-merbell's Mitsubishi Evolution is in good condition.
"All eyes will be focused on the GTS Class; this is where the top drivers will clash," said Jardine.
The St. Elizabeth-based Tedroy 'Teddy' Burton, who missed the last race meet, is expected to spring some surprises, likewise Guy Fraser who dominated the previous race meet.
A humble farmer from the rural community of Bluefields in Westmoreland, Fraser stole the spotlight by taking the checkered flag at least four times. Apart from being the star of the meet, he was the most successful driver for Team MoBay.
Also on show will be group two cars which will be driven by the Bowla brothers Chris, Bonny and Desmond ( all BMW's), Sebastian Rae, Richard Martin, Steve Sirgany, Don Gilbert, Robin Sutherland, Bobby Marshall and many others.
