Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

In a desperately close finish, Delloreen Ennis-London prevailed over Canada's 2003 world champion Perdita Felicien to win Jamaica's second gold medal at the XV Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro yesterday.

Ennis-Londoncame off the final hurdle with a clear lead but Felicien came at her in the last two metres. The national champion had, however, done enough and claimed victory and the gold by a whisker in a Games record 12.65 seconds. Her time beat the 12.66 set by another Jamaican, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, in winning the event at the Santo Domingo Games in 2003.

It was so close that Felicien was awarded the same time. The bronze medal went to another Canadian, Angela Whyte, in 12.72, while Jamaica's Vonette Dixon was fourth in 12.86.

Nickiesha Wilson bagged the island's second medal of the night, a silver in the women's 400m hurdles final. She clocked a personal best 54.94 as gold went to American Sheena Johnson in 54.64.

The two medals gained yesterday pushed Jamaica's tally here to five - two gold, two silver and a bronze - and 13th spot overall.

The United States lead the medal standings with 176 - 75 gold, 67 silver and 34 bronze ahead of Cuba, 35-19-29, and hosts Brazil, 34-28-46.
