Visa, workpermitstall Chanderpaul
published: Monday | July 23, 2007

Chanderpaul

LONDON, England (CMC):

West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is still sweating on his deal with English County club Durham.

The north-east England club recently agreed terms with the 32-year-old left-hander but the deal has been held up because of work permit and visa issues.

"We have agreed terms with West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul," Durham said recently in a statement.

"However, he will not sign for Durham CCC until he holds a valid work permit and visa. This process is in hand but may take some time."

Chanderpaul was the West Indies' leading batsman on the just-concluded tour of England, scoring 446 runs in three Tests at a superb average of 148.

He was also among the runs in the three-match one-day international tournament, scoring 202 runs with a similar average after being dismissed just once.

During the England series, Chanderpaul went past 7,000 Test match runs from his 104 Tests and is just shy of the same mark in ODIs with 6,975 runs from 222 matches.
