The Editor, Sir:
The world is now in a state of some panic what with daily threats and loss of lives in the name of religion. Islam has brought a sense of insecurity to the people of many nations across the globe and continues tostrike.
In the '70s it was the IRA, today, fanatical Muslims imposing their views on the world insist their way is the only way.
One such fanatic is Jamaican-born Abdullah El Faisal, Muslim cleric, who was involved in the 2005 London bombings which caused death and injury to many innocent people. The British Government has deported him back to Jamaica and so we now have to take this man seriously, as even a small incident of this kind in Jamaica, would wreak disaster on our already poor country.
My question is this - is the police force equipped to deal with this kind of crime against humanity? What kind of surveillance is being carried and are we protected? This type of surveillance is specialised and requires a task force. What is the view of the Muslim Church in Jamaica?
On this note, does the police force monitor any fanatical religious sects?
I am, etc.,
