WESTERN BUREAU:

Blood literally ran red at the entrance of William Street, better known as North Gully, in Montego Bay, where two men were murdered in an alleged robbery Saturday morning.

The two men have been identified as 33-year-old Neville 'Zulus' Reid and 31-year-old Melton Maxwell, both unemployed and of a Williams Street address.

Residents of the community cry foul play. Grieving and angry, some are so stricken that they had to seek medical attention; they are saying that the men were killed by the police.

"Dem seh is policeman kill him," said one relative, who fearing for her life asked not to be named. "When dem hear the shot, dem move the curtain and look and see the man; he was wearing a handkerchief (as a mask) but part of it was showing his face. The same man came back on the crime scene as policeman to take evidence."

According to police reports, at about 6:45 a.m., the two men were standing along William Street when a white motor car drove up to them. It is further alleged that two men alighted from the vehicle and approached both Maxwell and Reid asking for money. When the demand was not met, both men were shot several times, a number of 9mm and .45 mm spent shells were found at the scene.

Disguised

"Dress up like them a gunman and kill mi uncle, weh him fi get the money from," screamed a distraught niece with tears rolling down her cheeks. "Dem wicked, mi no like dem and if mi see nothing a tek place dem can't know because them wicked dem same one will come kill me because the only thing him do a drink. Im Innocent, Im a nuh gun-man. Him innocent dem no tek a pin off of him."

In acknowledging the concern of the residents Superintendentof police in charge of Montego Bay, Steve McGreggor, said he could not speak to the matter since it has not been verified but he will "look into any possibility".
