It was 'Recharge' with a difference this year. First, it was a family fun day then a concert.
Second, based on last year's showing, better accommodations were provided at the Police Officers' Club on Hope Road for the large number that was expected. For the first time, Prodigal relinquished his role as the closing performer of his own show to make way for international class act and newcomer, Micah Stampley.
That was not before Prodigal, decked out in his white three-piece suite, took 'Recharge' from one extreme to another. When he first entered the stage, it was a solemn occasion but then he transformed it into a fiery mode, with songs such as his hit Ketch A Fire with brother Jason Mighty. This was to make way for Stampley, who came out pretty energetic and ready to rock the house.
Unfortunately, what was a crowded venue had dwindled to an approximate quarter of the number that was present earlier. Stampley took the stage just after midnight when many supporters had been there from as early as 4 p.m. That did not deter him one bit. The gospel singer, popular for songs such as He's Great, Holy Visitation,I Believe and Unfailing Love, overwhelmed the gathering with his hits.
Earlier in the night, big time lyricist, Goddy Goddy, delivered like he knows best, comedian style. There were moments when it was not clear whether it was a gospel show or crack-up session, but the audience got his point. They loved every minute of it and applauded vigorously when he left.
Highly expected artiste

Moses was also one of the highly expected artistes. With a rod-like wooden sceptre in his hand, he appeared ready to lead like his biblical namesake. Moses delivered some of his signature songs like Salvation Story, When Di Tunda Roll and I Will Testify. And yes, he gave his testimony about surviving three bullets while he lived in his inner-city community.
In fact, that seemed to have been in keeping with the implied theme of night. Artiste after artiste came to the stage and told of how God had taken them out of their miserable life of doom the to where they now are. Gallimore also fell in this category when he took the stage with his thunderous voice.
The earlier segment of the show saw a few young talents that should have a bright future. Gameliel, a protegé of Prodigal, had ears and eyes glued to him as he mastered the stage like a veteran. Murphy also seemed ready for a breakout, having more energy than he usually does.
Another man who is always a treat on stage is Shepherd. He did what he had to and the audience was just dancing away. Jermaine Edwards also came out strong with praise and worship and then consecration. Others on the show included Craig C, Ryan Berry, Omari, Perpetual Praise, Chosen Vessel and New Generation.
Prodigal is currently THE STAR's Artiste of the Month. As a part of their feature, Nordia Creary won the opportunity to perform on Recharge. It was an opportunity she relished as she dealt with the big stage well. She sang That's Enough.
