Allison Fisher, world ranked number one female pool player, treated a crowd of pool enthusiasts to an amazing display of table craft on Friday night at the Peppers nightclub, Waterloo Road.

Fisher, who is on a four-day visit to the island to promote the sport, thanks to sponsors Red Bull and Pool Table and Billiard Supplies, not surprisingly outclassed the island's top players, coming from behind to beat number one ranked Sunil "Termite' Kissendal from Mystix Pool Bar 2-1, while brushing aside the other top ranked player, Calhoun Melville from Chelsea Pool Club 2-0 in clinical fashion.

Both Melville and Kissendal earned the right to play against Fisher by virtue of winning a number of elimination matches contested by the best pool players islandwide.

In the semi-final stages of theeliminations, Melville defeated former number one Roy Letts 3-1, while Kissendal also beat Albert Chung 3-1 in the other semi-final, with Melville going on to beat Kissendal 4-1 in the best of seven final at Hot Shots Pool Bar, 103 Constant Spring Road.

Fisher, 38, also beat Albert Chung as well as the island's number one female player Nicky Lawrence in single matches, but it was her exhibition displays that had the appreciative crowd buzzing with excitement.

Keen sense of humour

Blessed with a keen sense of humour, Fisher who was born in England (Sussex) but is now based in the United States (Charlotte, North Carolina), also took questions from the floor and provided useful hints on cue technology and how to become a better pool player.

"Never be complacent", she urged pool players. "I always try to play my best," she was quick to add. Fisher is a four-time world female pool champion and an 11-time snooker world champion. The six players who emerged victorious for their respective clubs in the lead up to Fisher's visit all received prizes, presented by Mitch Watson, brand manger of Red Bull. They are Melville (Chelsea), Kissendal (Mystix), Albert Chung (Hot Shots), Roy Letts (Pool Plus) Rohan Henry (TVJ) and Chris Campbell (Auto Craze).
