Deal with law breakers
published: Monday | July 9, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

It is amazing how people in authority continue tobreak our laws and get away with it. Almost every day when one listens to the call-in programmes, there are citizens out there who are traumatised because of noise pollution.

On the Hotline radio programme recently, there was one citizen who was so traumatised that one wished that one could reach out and offer some comfort.

It would seem that the Hellshire Beach is really 'Hell'. Persons seem to have taken control of this beach for parties and gun salutes. A mother called the programme quite distressed, as she had to ask her sister to keep her son, as he could not study at nights because of the level of the noise and he was due to take an exam.

And would you believe that when the police are called, nothing is done? One person called to say the police can do nothing about this noise pollution as they would be offending their colleagues who run the sound system on this beach. Where is the mayor, the councillors and the Members of Parliament? Surely they must be aware of this problem.

Where is the commissioner of police; where is the minister of justice? Why is the blatant breaking of the law not dealt with by our justice system? Where is our ombudsman? This is something that our politicians should be dealing with instead of the constant electioneering.

I am, etc.,
