Schoolboy season kicks off Sept 8

The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Associations (ISSA) has announced the groupings for the 2007 Pepsi-sponsored schoolboy Manning and daCosta competitions.

Four schools which were absent from last year's competition will be back this year. St. Mary Technical, Morant Bay High, and Merlene Ottey High are back in the daCosta Cup while Denham Town return to the Manning Cup.

Thirty-nine schools will compete for the Manning Cup title which is divided into six groups, while the daCosta Cup will be contested among 80 schools in 13 zones. Both tournaments are scheduled to start on September 8 with the opening games set for the National Stadium.

Two-time title holders and defending Manning Cup champions Bridgeport High are drawn in Group D of the competition which will include past champions St. George's College with 17 titles, Norman Manley (3), Dunoon (1), and Ardenne (1). The other teams in the group are Haile Selassie and Penwood High.

The other groups are:

Group A: Jamaica College (19), Waterford, Tivoli (2), Innswood, St. Mary's College, and St. Jago.

Group B: Eltham, Mona, Donald Quarrie, Ascot, Jose Marti, Kingston High, and Kingston College (14).

Group C: Calabar (3), Wolmer's (10), M1eadowbrook, Campion College, Edith Dalton-James, and Kingston Technical.

Group E: Charlie Smith (3), Camperdown (3), Denham Town, Pembroke Hall, Greater Portmore, and Gaynstead.

Group F: Excelsior (5), Jonathan Grant, Tarrant, Trench Town, Cumberland, Vauxhall, and St. Andrew Technical (1). Glenmuir High (2) will open the defence of the daCosta Cup when they square-off in Group I of the rural competition against Kemps Hill. The other teams in the group are Vere Technical (9), Garvey Maceo, Bustamante, Tacius Golding, and Old Harbour.

The other groups are:

Group A: Muschett, St. James, Cornwall College (10), William Knibb, Herbert Morrison (2), and Irwin.

Group B: Anchovy, Frome (1), Rusea's (7), Cambridge, Green Island, Knockalva, and Merlene Ottey.

Group C: Maud McLeod, Petersfield, Godfrey Stewart (1), Mannings, Little London, and Grange Hill.

Group D: AaButhontt Gallimore, Cedric Titus, Ocho Rios, MarcusGarvey, York Castle, and Brown's Town.

Group E: Newell, STETHS (2), Munro (7), Black River, Lacovia, Moggotty, B.B. Coke.

Group F: Manchester High, Belair, Porus, Bellfield, and Decarteret.

Group G: Knox, Spalding, Christiana, Albert Town, Holmwood, and Edwin Allen.

Group H: Clarendon College (6), Claude McKay, Denbigh, Central, Kellits, Lennon, and Thompson Town.

Group J: Bog Walk, Charlemont, Dinthill (2), Ewarton, McGrath, and Glengoffe

Group K: St. Mary High, St. Mary Tech., Tacky, Annotto Bay, Brimmer Vale, Islington, Iona, and Oracabessa.

Group L-A: Happy Grove, Fair Prospect, Titchfield, and Port Antonio.

Group L-B: Seaforth, Yallahs, Paul Bogle, Morant Bay, and St. Thomas Tech.
