Bomber heads St Leger entries - Feanny says Blue Magic will not run
published: Tuesday | July 3, 2007

The BOMBER races to the finish in the June 2 Jamaica Derby with Winston Griffiths aboard. - File

JAMAICA Derby winner, THE BOMBER, heads a list of seven entries for one of the most anticipated three-year-old classic races in years, this Saturday's 10-furlong Jamaica St. Leger.

THE BOMBER won the Derby over 12 furlongs on his third outing, June 2, after debuting less than a month earlier on May 5. Trained by Patrick Lynch, whose barn houses only seven horses, THE BOMBER's victory sent the bigger stables of Philip Feanny and Anthony Nunes dashing to make rider changes after their respective charges, RUM TALK and MUCHO GUSTO, were beaten wire-to-wire.

Blue Magic out

RUM TALK will have Charles Hussey doing duties, whereas MUCHO GUSTO will be partnered by champion jockey Brian Harding, who is being flown in from Trinidad and Tobago.

Trevor Simpson, who partnered RUM TALK in the Derby, will be aboard Nunes' other runner in the event, IL CAIMANO. The entries are completed by Arnold Rambally Jr.'s IVAN THE TERRIBLE, Harry Parsard's MY TRAIN and Feanny's BLUE MAGIC.

However, Feanny on Sunday told Racing Along BLUE MAGIC has not been travelling well at exercise and will be withdrawn from the event, which is the final leg of the local Triple Crown Series.

BLUE MAGIC, who had reverted to sprint races after finishing third in the 10-furlong Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup, was expected to keep THE BOMBER honest on the lead.

His absence, pundits claim, could very well result in a repeat of the Derby when Griffiths stole the race from six and a half-furlong out, opening up a huge lead down the backstretch and into the lane.

She's on wheels trophy

Meanwhile, six runners have been entered for the 1100-metre She's On Wheels Trophy but Feanny said his DISTINCTLY IRISH will be withdrawn, leaving possibly a field of six, headed by Wayne DaCosta's CLOCK WORK.

Other horses entered for the She's On Wheels are COMMANDING LIGHT, JUST SOME THOUGHTS, MUSICAL MAESTRO and NASATOL.
