SPALDINGS, Clarendon:

FATHERS WHO attended Father's Day service at Sanguinetti New Testament Church of God, in Clarendon, on Sunday, were given a special treat by the members of the Women's Ministry from at that church.

They were asked by moderator, Mrs. Evadney Cohen-McDonald, to occupy specially-reserved seats in the front pews decorated with blue and yellow ribbons .

Some, accompanied by their children, including the pastor for the church, Rev. Barrington DaCosta, received tributes in song and spoken word as they sat attentively and listened to all the kind words that were exchanged.

They were presented with specially wrapped tokens, all through the efforts of the women at the church. They later enjoyed brunch and a wide variety of desserts.

It was obvious that the women in the church made a special effort to give all fathers a good time at the function. It was a fitting tribute, as, on Mother's Day, the men fted them.

Guest speaker at the service, Mrs. Jacinth Walters, encouraged fathers not to give up even though they encountered adversity.

She said, "Do not give up but depend on God for inspiration, so that you will be able to attend to the needs of their family. Hug your children, have rap sessions with them and give counsel while you teach them right from wrong, so that they can develop into good citizens."

She further urged fathers to be understanding and not give up on their children, but give them a second chance to make a positive change. "Pay closer attention to their progress in school by visiting their teachers, looking at their school work, collecting their reports, attending Parent Teacher Association meetings," she said.
