PROMOTED MAJESTY Gardens made a welcome entry to Jamaica's top-flight basketball competition, sponsored by KFC, with an impressive 73-59 victory over former champions Tivoli All Stars at the National Stadium Courts on Monday.

In the day's other game, Arnett Gardens Rockers, led by Delano Mallett's game-high 16-points, whipped Harbour View Lakers 69-53. Mallett received good support from Arnel Campbell (13 points and 11 rebounds).

Kennardo Wright (15 points) and Christopher Manderson (10 points, eight rebounds and six steals) were the top performers for the Lakers.

Majesty Gardens, led by centre Barrington Berry's game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds, dominated the match from the opening whistle and held a nine-point lead at the half-time break, 41-32.

The Kingston 11-based Majesty Gardens maintained their nine-point lead throughout the third quarter to end the period with a 56-47 lead.

Berry received solid support from teammates Baldon Todd (15 points and six steals) and former national Under-19 representative Kemar McLeish (13) as the red-and-white-clad Majesty Gardens stepped up the defence in the fourth period to outscore the west Kingston-based by five points for a comfortable victory.

Paul Oliphant and Damion Young scored 12 points each for Tivoli Gardens.
