Kingston and St. Andrew and several other parishes continue to benefit from a clean-up campaign courtesy of volunteers attached to HOPE 2007 Partners.Yesterday HOPE highlighted its accomplishments at a media briefing at the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS).
In an interview with The Gleaner, president of the Errol Rattray Association, Errol Rattray, disclosed that HOPE, in association with the Spanish Town Ministers Fraternal, will be giving a facelift to the area in front of the Spanish Town hospital.
Mr. Rattray noted that "we are not doing this to keep Government in power, the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation publicly endorsed this and the Government came on afterwards".
While pointing out that the clean-up activities were not the primary responsibility of the church but the government, Mr. Rattray was quick to acknowledge that "we (the church) believe that we play a very important role in the transformation of our country".
The Christian community involved in the project includes the Jamaica Council of Churches, the Pentecostal Union, the Seventh-Day Adventist Church among others.
