Reckless bus drivers
published: Tuesday | June 5, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I am sure that Buju Banton's lyrics, 'Driver don't stop at all', were ignorantly misconstrued by bus drivers who are killing off innocent people going about their everyday life. Who could think that by just standing at a bus stop waiting for public transportation is putting your life at risk. Well, this is what happened to that unfortunate young student who died tragically by waiting on a bus at the bus stop. These drivers need to be taken off the streets. What are the consequences when drivers have up to 30 traffic violations and are still put back on the job to put more people's lives at risk?

The Minister of Transportation and even the owners of these private buses should enforce rules for drivers who break traffic laws; they should suffer the consequences of being imprisoned for endangering the lives of innocent people.

My daughter and I were on our way home when she burst out into tears. I asked her why she was crying and she said the bus was going to get her. When I looked through my rear-view mirror, I saw a public passenger bus almost touching my rear bumper on a road where they were not supposed to be trying to overtake my vehicle. There were school children in the bus riling up the bus driver, as they found it amusing for the driver to overtake while the song Driva was playing aloud in the bus.

Drivers, please stop!

I am, etc.,
