VERONICA CAMPBELL avenged her defeat to American Tori Edwards at the adidas Track Classic two weeks ago with an impressive victory at yesterday's Reebok Grand Prix meet in New York City.

In another competitive showdown, Campbell, winner of two gold medals at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, stopped the clock in the 100 metres in 10.93 seconds.

Despite being two hundredths of a second slower than what she ran for second place behind Edwards at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, two Sundays ago, Campbell was able to finish ahead of the American, who clocked 10.96.

Americans Allyson Felix (11.01) and world champion Lauryn Williams (11.11) were third and fourth, respectively.

In the men's 200m, Usain Bolt inched closer to Donald Quarrie's national record of 19.86 with another impressive run.

Bolt's time of 19.89, one hundredth of a second outside his personal best, gave him second place behind American Wallace Spearmon (19.82). World Championships silver medallist Chris Williams (20.17) and Marvin Anderson (20.42) were third and fourth, respectively.

Jamaican Commonwealth Games champion Omar Brown did not finish.

Commonwealth Games 100m champion Sheri-Ann Brooks was third in the women's 200m in 22.98 seconds, beaten by Americans Rachelle Boone-Smith (22.31) and LaShauntea Moore (22.74). Edino Steele (45.90) finished sixth overall in the men's 400m, which was won by Tyler Christopher of Canada (44.93).

DeWayne Barrett (47.12), Jermaine Gonzales (48.30) and Sékou Clarke (48.46) finished sixth, seventh and eighth respectively in Race Two.

Inez Turner did not finish in the women's 800m.
