The Editor, Sir:I write in response to an article, published in The Sunday Gleaner, dated May 27, 2007, under the heading 'Battle for political supremacy in eastern seats', written by Mr. Garwin Davis.
Let me establish some facts: Prime Minister and party leader Portia Simpson Miller did not tour the three constituencies in St Mary; she toured sections of St Mary South Eastern. The superintendent of police in charge of the parish can give you full details of the route she travelled.
She landed at the Westmoreland Oval, travelled to Fort Stewart and adjoining districts, namely Reddington, Juno Pen, Enfield and Forty One. The comrades stayed in the districts as was directed by the political directorate, to show that we had not imported persons from outside. This fact can be checked with the police or other residents, whether PNP or JLP. She then journeyed to Richmond where thousands of comrades gathered to meet her. The comrades at Richmond gathered from as early as 10:00 in the morning until 7:00 p.m. when she arrived.
From Highgate Siding, the party leader journeyed to Cromwell where I took her to meet the niece and granddaughter of former JLP Members of Parliament Alva and Charles Ross. She journeyed to Belfield where hundreds of comrades lined the streets to meet their Prime Minister and party leader.
I hope Mr. Davis will visit the constituency of South St Mary, especially areas where the party leader toured and get first-hand views from the people (both JLP and PNP supporters).
