Police Federation conference begins today

National Security Minister Dr. Peter Phillips and Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas will be among speakers at the two-day, 64th Police Federation Annual General Conference, which begins today at the Starfish Hotel in Trelawny.

"[First] on the agenda will be the 40-hour work week system for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, health benefits for the over 8,000 rank and file membersof the Police Federation and issues related to transfers and promotion," said the Federation General Secretary Corporal Hartley Stewart.

MOU to be discussed

Also to be discussed is the agreement and the signed Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Regional Association of Police Federation.

The guest speaker will be Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele of Maryland in the United States.

Tomorrow afternoon, delegates are expected to vote and elect a central executive.
