Opposition spokesman on Transport Mike Henry has moved a resolution asking his parliamentary colleagues to declare no confidence in the administration of Air Jamaica.Moving the motion during yesterday's sitting of Parliament, Mr. Henry urged members of the Lower House to debate the resolution, while calling on Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to report to Parliament on the status of the national airline.
Mr. Henry's motion comes against the background of the sale of Air Jamaica's London route to Virgin Atlantic.
This was confirmed by Information Minister Donald Buchanan.
According to Mr. Henry, the decision to sell the airline's slot was done without consulting sector interests, including the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association and hotel operators.
He also pointed out that the action of the airline's management was incontempt of the Joint Select Committee of Parliament, which was set up to review the operations of the airline.
The motion noted that the committee was to be provided with details of the performance of the airline by the management team.
Air Jamaica's management was also accused of operating in secrecy, while concluding the sale of the assets of the company.
