Singer Richie Stephens used the platform of his annual 'Take Me Away' concert to promote unity in Jamaica, ending the event by inviting the Opposition Leader, Bruce Golding, and Minister of Tourism, Aloun Assamba, to stand together in a show of solidarity.

Held at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Sunday night, the concert began promptly at 8:00 p.m. with the night's backing band, Masterpiece, warming up the patronage to a harmonious performance from young violinist Jessica Yap.

Delighted patrons

While the ears of patrons were being delighted, so were their taste buds, as Cadbury chocolate and roses courtesy of Best Buds were distributed.

Boris Gardner took the stage, thrilling the crowd with Let's Keep It That Way and The Last Farewell.

Those who were not fortunate enough to be seated in the V.I.P. section located close to the stage, missed very little, as two large screens projected the performance to all corners of the venue which was filled to about two thirds of its capacity.

Adding variety to the concert, Dance Xpressionz presented a spirited performance followed by the comedic duo, Ity and Fancycat, who were truly in their element.

Bunny Rugs, Third World's lead singer, followed and reeled off hits such as Committed and Monday Morning Blues.

The man of the hour, Richie Stephens, was called onstage and the two brought the house down with a combined performance of Try My Love.

As if the night could not get any better, the compre announced songtress Diana King. This got the crowd to their feet, as they sang along to her energetic performances of A Little Tenderness and smash hit Shy Guy.

Dynamic artistes

The dynamic Morgan Heritage followed and immediately whipped patrons into a frenzy with their hits such as Down By The River, Your Best friend and How Come.

The show later closed when Stephens invited Assamba, Golding and surprise guest, Beenie Man, onstage to help sing Stephens' recent hit, Jamaica.

Beenie Man commented that he was blown away by the night's performances and had to 'touch the stage' for his friend Richie.

"Beautiful! Mi na lie, mi full joy myself, especially Bunny Rugs, Diana King too," said Beenie Man.

The Tourism Minister was equally pleased with the night's performances. She said: "I thought it was a wonderful night, I enjoyed every minute of it. I only wished Jessica Yap did another song, my favourite song for the night was by Dean Fraser, Diamonds in Your Feet, it was fabulous."
