NOTEWORTHY - Double standard
published: Wednesday | May 30, 2007

Double standard

I think it is more than a double standard when our television stations are allowed to broadcast movies that are laced with curse words and all types of violence and nudity, while entertainers are charged or censored for using curse words in their songs or on stage shows.

I think there should be one standard. Either no cursing in public period, or everybody does it at will. Some might say television shows are in a different category because one does not have to watch the show, but so are the stage shows and songs - one does not have to listen to them.

Also, most of the time when entertainers use profanity in their music, it is because they are fed-up with the system and they are just showing their disgust.

I am opposed to any kind of violence, and I think violence and profanity should be banned from movies and television shows.

Time to unite

Yes, election is coming up and I just want to encourage all of us Jamaicans to let peace abide among us.

It's time for us to realise that we all are brothers and sisters. There's always hope, but we have to bear in mind that united we stand, divided we fall. If everyone puts their shoulder to the wheel, unite together in love, joy and peace, we can make our country more beautiful and a fun place where everyone always wants to be.

I urge you all today to stop the violence in our country. I think Jamaica has had enough with the violence and right now all we need to do is to let God arise and his enemies be scattered. We need to look to God who is THE LEADER above all leaders.

I also want to encourage all the politicians to do your best at creating and maintaining peace in our communities. Politics is not about war and violence, but it is about choosing the right persons to lead our people.

Air J the best

I hope from Los Angeles to Montego Bay, there won't be a problem. I have been travelling to Jamaica for a long time and of all the airlines, Air Jamaica is the best.

If I flew another airline I would have to fly from Los Angeles to Dallas, to North Carolina, to Florida, to Jamaica. Even as busy as Los Angeles airport is, Air Jamaica could "half rent a counter as they do with Delta".

They do not fly out of Los Angeles everyday, so what is the problem?
